Reptile Humidity & Monitoring
Maintaining the correct humidity levels is an important part of reptile and amphibian care. Alongside temperature, humidity plays a vital role in supporting natural behaviours, healthy shedding and overall wellbeing.
Different species require different humidity levels to thrive. Tropical reptiles and amphibians often require higher humidity environments, while desert species require much lower levels. Monitoring the humidity within an enclosure allows keepers to ensure conditions remain suitable for the species being kept.
Using accurate hygrometers and monitoring equipment makes it easy to measure relative humidity (%RH) and keep track of environmental conditions inside the enclosure. Regular monitoring helps prevent problems such as dehydration, shedding difficulties and respiratory issues.
Some species, particularly arboreal reptiles such as chameleons and geckos, will drink water droplets from leaves and surfaces rather than from a bowl. Drip systems can provide a slow and steady source of water while also helping to maintain humidity within the enclosure.
At Living Art Ball Pythons we stock a range of reliable hygrometers, thermometer-hygrometer combinations and drip systems designed to help reptile keepers accurately monitor humidity and maintain a stable enclosure environment.
