Vivarium décor is important for your animal’s wellbeing, as it helps them feel secure within their enclosure. Whether opting for a naturalistic setup or a more clinical quarantine environment, reptiles still require places to hide in order to reduce stress and feel safe.
Artificial plants are a great addition to any setup as they are hygienic, durable and easy to clean, while also creating ideal hiding places for reptiles and live food, particularly arboreal species. They can also be combined with real plants to enrich an animal’s environment, and their realistic appearance ensures they blend naturally into the enclosure without the maintenance required by live plants.
Hides should always be provided for the animal, whether in a tub or vivarium. We recommend that reptiles have at least three different hiding spots positioned throughout the terrarium. This ensures the animal never has to choose between reaching its preferred temperature and feeling secure.
Naturalistic hides can be created using bark pieces, cork, rocks and realistic resin caves. For quarantine setups, however, plastic hides are often recommended as their smooth surfaces are easy to clean and disinfect, with no cracks or ridges where dirt, parasites or bacteria can accumulate. We offer our own range of plastic hides, available in a variety of colours and styles to suit any enclosure.
Leaf litter provides a natural form of cover and allows you to replicate the forest floor where many reptiles are found. The leaves create hiding places for custodians and live food, encouraging natural foraging behaviour. They also help trap humidity near the substrate, which benefits both plants and animals within the enclosure.
